The Asia-Pacific region is rapidly experiencing changes in disease incidences, phenotypes, and prognosis in various colorectal diseases particularly in inflammatory bowel diseases and colorectal cancer probably due to changes in diet, economics, and other environmental factors [1,2]. However, the phenotypes of the diseases appear to be different compared to Western countries. Moreover, various and diverse medical situations among the regions have different accessibility to the medical systems, endoscopy, or therapeutic options. Therefore, the scholars in this region realized the necessity of a region-specific journal that covers those matters.
Intestinal Research (ISSN: 1598-9100) is the only joint official journal of the Asian Organization for Crohn’s and Colitis, Chinese Society of IBD, Japanese Society for IBD, Korean Association for the Study of Intestinal Diseases, Taiwan Society of IBD, and Colitis Crohn’s Foundation (India) [3]. The aim of Intestinal Research is to provide broad and in-depth analysis of multiple aspects of diseases originated from the small and large intestines, especially inflammatory bowel disease, which shows increasing tendency and significance in the Asia-Pacific region and colon and small intestine cancer or polyp, endoscopy, irritable bowel syndrome and other motility disorders, infectious enterocolitis, intestinal tuberculosis, and so forth.
The first issue of Intestinal Research was published in May 2003 and had been regularly published semiannually, and three times per year from 2011. Now, this journal is published four times per year (30th January, April, July, and October) from 2012 [3]. Our journal is indexed/tracked/covered by ESCI, Scopus, PubMed, PubMed Central, EBSCO, DOAJ, KCI, KoreaMed, KoMCI, DOI/CrossRef, and Google Scholar. Our journal has proudly improved with regard to the number of submitted manuscripts, published contents, citations, and reputations. Currently, Intestinal Research ranks 32/149 (21.141%) in terms of Journal CiteScore from Scopus and 47/152 (30.592%, SJR 0.91) in terms of SJR from SCImago Journal & Country Rank [4]. We also anticipate that Intestinal Research will be indexed in SCIE in the very near future. It would not be long that Intestinal Research becomes the Asian-Pacific Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Journal or Journal of Crohn’s and Colitis.
